Sharjah concludes an acclaimed participation in GITEX Technology Week 2014
Sharjah’s “Fountains of Pride” Stand a Major Attraction, Impresses Visitors.

- Thousands of visitors learn about eServices provided by Sharjah Government.

- Dozens of smart services and applications launched during trade show.
Sharjah concluded its participation in GITEX Technology Week 2014. The trade show was a tremendous success for Sharjah’s stand named “Fountains of Pride”, according to the number of show goers and VIPs who have visited the stand and witnessed the launch of dozens of eServices, bringing the total of smart services and apps provided by Sharjah’s Government to over 350. This year, 28 governmental entities from the Emirate participated to showcase their latest digital endeavours to serve citizens and residents, in the context of state-wide efforts to implement smart Government.


Participant Departments included: the Directorate of Town Planning and Survey, the Department of Sea Ports and Customs, the Department of Public Works, the Department of Economic Development, the Sharjah Police Headquarters, Sharjah Education Council, the American University in Sharjah,the Directorate of Human Ressources, Sharjah Municipality, the Department of Social Services, Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services, Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority, Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, the Directorate of Housing, Sharjah Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Expo Centre Sharjah, Sharjah University, the Department of Culture and Information, Sharjah Library, the Department of Islamic Affairs, the Department of Finance, Sharjah Center for Documentation and Research, the Department of Statistics and Community Development, Sharjah International Airport Authority, Sharjah Free Zone, Government of Sharjah Executive Council, Sharjah Media Centre, Al-Hamryiah Free Zone, Sharjah eGovernment, and Dibba Al-Hisn Municipality.

A raffle was held on the last day over 43 prizes for participating visitors who had registered, including iPhone6 devices, iPads, and a Mini Cooper car as a grand prize.

Sheik Khaled bin Ahmad bin Sultan Al-Qasimi, Director General of Sharjah eGovernment saluted the Emirate’s consolidated participation in a single stand and how it drew attention during the trade show, as various Sharjah governmental entities launched their latest smart applications to improve levels of service. He stressed on the fact that: “GITEX Technology Week 2014 is a major event with regional and global prominence, attracting the sector’s finest from all over the world. It is a gateway to access the latest innovations in ICT”.

He pointed that: “These efforts follow the directions given by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al-Qasimi, Supreme Council member and Ruler of Sharjah, to provide all services that could facilitate transactions for citizens”. Sheikh Khaled also clarified that these smart applications have helped develop the Emirate, and provided easier interactions with governmental entities. He mentioned the development of the Sharjah eGovernment Portal by the department throughout the year 2014, as a holistic, state-of-the-art approach.

Sheikh Khaled bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al-Qassimi said: “the Government of Sharjah is working under its wise leadership to provide public services on a 24/7 basis, it strives to simplify paperwork which reflects positively on the satisfaction of residents and citizens in the Emirate”.

He added: “Sharjah Government’s participation this year was exceptional, and extremely creative. Many smart applications were launched for the first time. It showed the effort that was put into enhancing governmental services using modern technologies, especially mobile services, in line with the best practices internationally”.

Sheikh Khaled declared: “We are keen on the implementation of the concept of smart Government, and we coordinate with various departments and institutions in Sharjah, according to the directions given by His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al-Qasimi, Supreme Council member and Ruler of Sharjah, and under the supervision of His Highness Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Bin Sultan Al-Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and Chairman of the Sharjah Executive Council. This guidance makes us determined to act accurately and swiftly in order to implement these strategies, dear to Sharjah and all of the United Arab Emirates”.

He pointed that the stand was the platform for many events to showcase Sharjah’s leap forward in the last few years. It presented the public with a range of solutions used by various departments, allowing it to perform and track transactions easily though several digital channels. Each entity has so far launched dozens of electronic services on their respective websites and apps.

Sheikh Khaled bin Ahmed bin Sultan Al-Qasimi concluded that: “Sharjah eGovernment is constantly improving its performance indicators, and the department’s staff present at GITEX Technology Week 2014 has carefully monitored best practices presented by various participants”.
