Sharjah’s “Fountains of Pride” themed stand at GITEX tells a story of Knowledge and Heritage

Sharjah’s exceptional participation in GITEX Technology Week 2014 under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah tells the story of growth and prosperity in the Emirate and represents 28 governmental entities.

The design makes reference to the most notable Sharjah landmarks and its role as a regional and international intellectual hub, which resulted in the Emirate being named Capital for Islamic Culture by ISESCO in 2014 and Cultural Capital of the Arab world by UNESCO in 1998.

Sharjah Government’s stand this year at GITEX Technology Week is replete with symbolism referring to these core values, and inspired by emblematic elements of Sharjah’s identity. The Rolla tree represents life, continuity, and exchange. For over 150 years, a famous Rolla tree had hosted cultural and trade events in the Emirate under its luxuriant branches. The structure, reminiscent of it, represents both Sharjah’s will to innovate and its attachment to heritage.

Organizers are keen on realizing the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and the design had to be worthy of Sharjah’s role in the UAE and the Arab World. All over the stand, beams of white light represent knowledge. They travel from the top of the Rolla tree and feed into the Dome, as knowledge comes from the Almighty. White light is also how Sharjah got its name: a flat land, bright, and flooded by sunlight. The Dome, a recurrent element in Sharjah’s architecture, and a must for every Sharjah Government building, stands tall as a separate structure, representing Sharjah’s attachment to Islamic values.
